A country drive near Saskatoon, Part 2, July 4, 2010

While in Saskatoon, I went out with my dear old (with an emphasis on the old!) friend Frank Roy to take pictures. We chased and caught this rainbow, although my photo doesn't do it justice.
A potash mine.
They don't make clouds like that on the coast!
Posted by PicasaA yellow-headed blackbird. They were very plentiful this evening!

A country drive near Saskatoon on July 4th, Part I

On July 4th, I went for a drive with my dear old friend Frank Roy and we took pictures and visited.
Above is the church at St. Denis.
What reflections!
Oh, those clouds!
A ruddy duck, looking almost tropical with its blue bill.

Today

Today I fixed the sprinkler system.
Yesterday was an amazing day. I started the day by heading up Mt. Arrowsmith. When I left Nanaimo, it was sunny with forecast highs of about 15 degrees. However, the farther we went up the mountain, the cloudier it became, until on the summit it was snowing. But it was all good when we got down!

Then, in the evening, I went to nearby Neck Point to take pictures of the sunset. I was admiring the image of the setting sun, when I heard some snorting. I thought it was maybe a seal or sea lion that had come up close to shore. Finally, I looked up and spotted a pod of about 10 orcas about 200 yards offshore. They were fishing and slapping their tales, sometimes three in unison.

Oh, Vancouver Island is a tough place to live, but someone's gotta do it!
